What does it entail? Why is it happening, and what does it mean for your business?
Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, but the reality of regulations is also slowly coming into play.
The AI Act is the new European law that determines how AI may be developed and used within Europe.
It is not there to prevent innovation, but to ensure that AI remains reliable, safe and human-centric.
Another step ahead of the US ;)
1. What exactly is the AI Act?
The AI Act divides all AI applications into four categories:
- Forbidden AI
AI that manipulates people or directs their behavior (such as social scoring or emotion recognition in public spaces). - High risk
AI that affects people's rights or safety — for example, in recruitment, credit assessment, or medical applications. - Limited risk
Applications such as chatbots, where you have to indicate that there is AI behind it. - Low risk
General use, without real obligations.
From 2026 the law will apply in full, with gradual implementation from 2025.
2. What does this mean for your business?
Are you already using AI in your processes? For example, in HR, marketing, or production? Here are the key considerations:
- You must knowing where and how AI influences decisions.
- Users (customers or employees) must know they are dealing with AI.
- You stay responsible for the use of AI, even if the software comes from a supplier.
- For high-risk applications you must be able to demonstrate that the system safe, transparent and verifiable is.
👉 In short: you can still use AI, but you must be able to explain and justify it.
